The ninth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) is set to take place from February 17 to March 17, a slight alteration from the initially proposed dates of February 18 to March 19. This decision has been communicated to the franchises involved.
This edition will span across four cities: Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Multan, with plans to host the opening ceremony and select matches in Lahore. The pinnacle of the tournament, the final, is slated to be held in Karachi.
Originally, discussions arose about potentially relocating the league to the UAE due to the impending general elections in early February. However, a resolution was reached to keep the tournament within Pakistan's borders.
Organizing the schedule encounters challenges, particularly with double headers, prompting considerations to finalize it before Ramadan. Concerns have been raised about stadium attendance during matches in Karachi, with the board expressing worries about the National Stadium potentially remaining largely empty during single matches. This issue is under active deliberation, and a decision is expected soon.
Initially scheduled for February 8, the start date was adjusted due to the Election Commission's decision to hold elections on the same day, necessitating a shift in the PSL schedule.
Meanwhile, franchises have expressed reservations about the choice of venues for matches in February, citing potential weather-related difficulties such as cold temperatures and fog. Discussions on this matter are ongoing.
